What once began as Disney Village had at one time shed that moniker to be reborn as Downtown Disney. Now, years later the cycle of regeneration for this budding haven of food, fun, and retail shopping experiences began anew, as Downtown Disney was officially rededicated as Disney Springs.
This long awaited change, first announced two and a half years ago officially occurred at 5 p.m. on Sept. 29, at a special ceremony nestled between new dining experiences The Boathouse, and Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar.

Maribeth Bisienere, Senior Vice President of the Disney Springs and ESPN Wide World of Sports was on hand to discuss the change with a gaggle of eager guests who pressed together in anticipation of the announcement.
“As we planned this, we asked ourselves, what do people love about Disney?” Bisienere said, citing Disneys world renowned reputation to create themed environments for its guests.
Walt Disney World President George Kalogridis also took the stage to thank all of the cast members visionaries and imagineers who helped make Disney Springs a possibility

Several cast members flooded into the clearing holding a number of large white cards that, when placed together, formed the logo for Downtown Disney. Then, on cue, each cast member flipped their card around to display the blue and white logo of Disney Springs, signifying the fulfillment of this latest Disney dream.
